Immigration sucks. Especially if you hold a unique passport. Blacklisted is a heartwarming, autobiographical tale of borders and belonging, featuring music inspired by South Asian Classical, jazz, blues and rock. When Almitra was nineteen she made a deal with her Ma, she needed to leave Pakistan to have the future in theatre she always wanted. The two things stopping her—a unique passport... and bloody Canada. In this autobiographical cabaret with all original music, she shares her story of displacement, racial profiling, and visa rejections. Originally written as an angsty hate letter to Canada, the show has evolved into a heartwarming tale of borders and belonging, that is both unique and universally relevant. Immerse yourself in the experience—sitting with the storyteller on a cosy rug, whilst being serenaded and savouring a delightful cup of Chai.
"Blacklisted, directed by Jessica Fallico, was a thought provoking, deeply, personal show... As the lights came on, I had to contain myself and wipe the tears that had flooded my face." (Broadway World)
"A moving experience with so much heart. An important, vulnerable, stunning story" (Diversity Australia)
"Simply beautiful and full of emotion" ★★★★ ½ (Theatre Now)
"Nuanced emotional depth" ★★★★ (Sydney Arts Guide)
(This is a reimagined version of the original production, performed at the Hayes in 2022)
